“Haunted” Trolley Tours on Tap for This Fall

Tickets are now on sale for Molly the Trolley’s 2023 fall “Haunted” History/Mystery Tours scheduled to begin Thursday, September 28.

A “spirit” from Wolfeboro’s past (played by John Smith of Wolfeboro) interrupted the Haunted/History Trolley Tour last year. Who and where will it be this year?

Where Molly will take her “guesst” this year remains as much a mystery as which (or perhaps we should say witch) lessons the elderly, and rather creepy 1800s schoolmarm’ Maude Taylor will try to teach.

Molly will travel back in time with Miss Maude visiting parts of three centuries and exploring the history and mystery of Wolfeboro’s past. Who knows who else may show up along the way?

During the tour Molly will make several stops when passengers will get off the trolley and walk short distances.

“It’s sure to be a bit creepy, a lot of fun and I’m confident you’ll step off the trolley knowing something you didn’t know when you boarded,” said Wolfeboro Trolley Company owner Kathy Faiman (aka Maude.) READ MORE

Fire destroyed Hunter's Shop `n Save in Wolfeboro

The good people in charge of Hunter's Shop 'n Save tell us yes, Hunter's will be back "as quick as possible". It will be rebuilt.
The store and its people are such a huge part of the Wolfeboro community! Difficult to see today's devastation, and grateful everyone is okay.

The Chamber of Commerce has talked with those in charge of Hunter’s and is continuing to stay in communication with them.

It is wonderful that people want to offer to help.

Currently, we do not know from Hunter’s what any needs might be for i.e., its employees.

We will publish new information that Hunter’s asks us to share on wolfeborochamber.com and in social media.

Visitors to the “Oldest Summer Resort in America” don’t have to hunt for a parking space or be concerned about the two-hour parking limit downtown this summer.

Jolly the Trolley now welcomes visitors at the Kingswood Arts Center on South Main Street, where there are hundreds of open parking spaces, and takes them Downtown where they can enjoy everything this picturesque Lake Winnipesaukee community offers.

Park ‘n Ride Trolley Shuttle runs between Kingswood Arts Center and Wolfeboro Railroad Station every half hour all day.

The new Park ‘n Ride continuous trolley service is offered by the Wolfeboro Trolley Company, owner of Molly the Trolley, which has been introducing Wolfeboro to guests with her narrated Hop On & Off Tours for 35 years.

“We want everyone’s visit to be hassle-free,” said Owner Kathy Fairman. “Whether you want to shop, dine, visit a museum, take a lake cruise or a trolley tour (Jolly meets Molly at the Railroad Station,) our goal is to make it as easy and as much fun as possible.

“That includes being able to get back to your car whenever you want,” she added. “Jolly returns to the Kingswood Arts Center (21 McManus Road) just as often as it heads downtown.”

That is every half hour when Jolly starts at 8 am with the last trip down at 5:30 pm. Jolly returns every half hour starting at 8:15 with the last ride back at 5:45 pm.

Molly the Trolley’s narrated tours leave the Railroad Station (32 Central Ave) at 11:00, 12:00, 1:00 and 2:00 and the Town Docks at 11:30, 12:30 and 1:30.

There are three kinds of All-Day Trolley Passes: Combo, which includes both trolleys (Adult $10,) Park ‘n Ride only (Adult $6,) and Hop On & Off Narrated Tour only (Adult $8.) Children 4-12 are half-price and kids under 4 ride free.

Our Shared Humanity

Nancy Hughes, Director
Our Shared Humanity

In 2019 as Brewster Academy began to plan for its bicentennial celebration in 2020, Craig Gemmell and his team were eager to do something that could be shared with the town of Wolfeboro and the surrounding area, given the school's deep history with the local community. During this period Gemmell was approached by a former Ossipee local, Craig Vezina, who asked Gemmell if Brewster might be interested in hosting the remarkable photography exhibition entitled 200 Women, which had opened in New York City and then toured in Europe. Soon plans were underway to host the exhibition of forty-six large scale photographs in the soon-to-be-renovated Rogers building in the spring of 2020. But like so much in the spring of 2020 and the ensuing months, the Covid-19 pandemic scrambled Brewster’s bicentennial plans.

In the winter of 2021, new head-of-school Kristy Kerin and her team returned to exhibition planning and began to think about not just sharing but actually partnering with the town. Now in the spring of 2022, Brewster is delighted to be partnering with the Wolfeboro Public Library and Town Hall to share the 200 Women exhibition with the wider community throughout the month of May. In each location—Brewster’s Lord House, The Great Hall in the Town Hall, and the Wolfeboro Public Library—visitors can view two clusters of the portraits.

A word about the exhibition: Each of the women presented were photographed against a neutral background and simultaneously filmed responding to the following questions: What really matters to you? What brings you happiness? What do you consider the lowest depth of misery? What would you change if you could? What single word so you must identify with? The women’s responses to these questions are available in text and through QR codes at each location, and make this exhibition particularly engaging and compelling. The photographs are striking; the women’s words are powerful.

An accompanying virtual speaker series: As Kerin’s team prepared for the exhibition, they saw an opportunity to enrich the viewing experience and provide space for further reflection and discussion around the exhibition’s five central questions. This gave rise to the Our Shared Humanity virtual speaker series, which runs every Tuesday evening from April 26th-May 24th. They are proud to have received support for this virtual program from New Hampshire Humanities.
